The hustle and bustle begins at the end of August and ends mid-June, as these angels take care of our chickens for almost nine and a half months out of the year. From forming meaningful relationships with our children to enduring tantrums and braving countless illnesses from our 'petri-dish kids,' teachers truly deserve more than just a shield for protection—they deserve a standing ovation! As we approach Teacher Appreciation Week, running from May 6th to the 10th, it's time to celebrate these unsung heroes and show our gratitude in style by making the grade with gifts they'll actually love and won't regift. If your wondering what to get that hero wearing the cape that you send your child off to each day, join me, Bougie Budget Mama, as I review some of my top teacher gifts that they'll actually love and not regift.
Teacher Appreciate Week is a time where parents, students, and staff can thank these unsung heros for mentoring, teaching, and protecting our children, while we're off fighting the world. They have such important jobs, that it's nice to be able to recognize and take the time to honor their hard work and countless hours that they put in with our "angels."
I always think to myself, what do you get someone who is teaching your child the essentials she or he needs to know in life: i.e. reading, writing, getting a long with others, treating others how you want to be treated, and the damn Math, Lord knows I can't do that, nor do I have the patience for it. What's the right gift to say "Thank You!" I did a little research for everyone to save some time and effort, because lord knows I am all about time efficiency and found some of the time Do's and Don'ts that the Teacher's Could use.
Number 1: Amazon Gift Card
Amazon Gift Cards, how could you go wrong? You literally could buy anything and everything on this website and more! This takes the pressure off of you, and the teacher is able to choose exactly what she would like to have for herself or himself. She could either get something for the classroom or for themselves. This to me is a no brainer. Now to go with the Amazon Gift card you can easily print a gift card holder that says something like this...
Now if you're thinking that this is so generic and everyone gets Amazon gift cards, there is also the option of getting a gift card to Target, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or a Visa Gift Card; however the consensus is still tried and true that Amazon is the winner!
2. Hand Written Notes:
Who doesn't love a hand-written note from your son or daughter? The same is true with teachers, most of the teachers have agreed that they have enough mugs to last them a lifetime, but a hand written note from one of the kiddos or something that is homemade is truly something special. It's thoughtful and shows that the effort that was put into the gift. For Christmas time, my Daughter wanted to buy everyone a gift, so we had to limit the budget, and set some boundaries because this girl would give away the clothes off her back if she could. I asked Sofia what she wanted to do for her teacher, and she said she wanted to make something. My mom brain went into action, and we came up with a home made Christmas mas tree out of green poster board, decorated it with art supplies we had in the house, and then attached a few gift cards. Both of her teachers and her favorite bus driver got these gifts. She was so proud because she made it herself.
3. Plants:
With spring right around the corner, trying to peak its head every so often, a nice flowered plant, which symbolizes appreciation, gratitude, and growth. Ironically, these are all sentiments often associated with teachers who nurture and help students grow academically and personally. Potted plants can last much longer than cut flowers, which wilt after a few days. The longevity serves as a lasting reminder of the teacher's impact on the student's life. If the teacher is anything like me, they'll be lucky that most are low maintence, and don't require a lot of attention to those teachers who may not have a lot of time to care for plants. Not only are the flowering plants decorative and can brighten up a classroom or personal space, they are beautiful and can provide a sense of cheerfulness to any environment. Have your son or daughter pick out a specific flower that matches your teacher's preference or personality, shows that you've put thought and effort into the gift.
4. Classroom Supplies
Teachers often spend their own money on classroom supplies. Monetary gift cards to educational supply stores or a basket filled with supplies like markers, sticky notes, and classroom decorations helps teachers, who often spend their own money on classroom supplies to ensure that their students have everything they need for learning. By providing them with these supplies, you're helping to alleviate some of their own financial burden and ensuring that they have the resources necessary to create engaging and effective lessons. You're also demonstrating that you understand and appreciate the hard work and dedication that teachers put into their jobs, and acknowledging the importance of their role in educating and nurturing students. These classroom supplies can be tailored to suit the specific needs and preferences of the teacher. You can choose supplies that align with their teaching style, subject area, or personal interests, making the gift feel more thoughtful and personalized. Unlike some other types of gifts that may be consumed or used up quickly, classroom supplies have a longer lifespan and these supplies you've gifted can last throughout the school year, which serves as a lasting reminder of your appreciation.
By providing teachers with classroom supplies, you're indirectly supporting education and contributing to the overall learning environment within the school. Your gift helps ensure that students have access to the resources they need to succeed academically.
In the end, whether it's a simple thank you note, a homemade treat, or a carefully selected gift, the gesture itself is what truly matters. Teachers pour their hearts into shaping young minds every day, and a token of appreciation, no matter how small, can brighten their day and remind them of the invaluable impact they have on our lives. So, let's continue to celebrate and support our teachers, not just during Teacher Appreciation Week, but all year round. Behind every successful student, there is a teacher who believed in them. Here's to the unsung heroes of education – thank you for all you do!
